Public institution School of Applied Medical Sciences was founded on 3rd of July by the decision of RS Government.
The main aim of establishing the school was to educate higher school students in the area of health system, physiotherapy, sanitary engineering and medical-laboratory engineering.
The school had two periods : initially it existed as Higher Medical School until 2007 when it changed the status into the School of Applied Medical Sciences while in methodology of teaching process so called Bologne study metrics was introduced together with ECTS transfer system and accumulation of credit points.
In accordance with standards of World Health Organization and European community, there is recommendation on all levels of health protection that apart from medical doctors the professionals, with at least three year education, are needed to accomplish the certain competences in order to improve the entire health system.
The high level of academic studies and other achievements of people employed in the area of medical-health system and sanitary engineering, provided very high ranking of the School of Applied Medical Sciences Prijedor among the other well know institutions of this kind in the region. The quality of teaching staff, curricula and material technical conditions at School of Applied Medical Sciences Prijedor for three year studies ( 180 ECTS ) was confirmed by the Ministry for Education and Culture of RS and license commission on 07th of Jul 2007 by issuing the license for work.
Taking into account that the School of Applied Medical Sciences Prijedor has grown into a respectable institution of very high importance for wider region, there was the need for introduction of four year study program (240 ECTS). The reasons and justifiability for the above mentioned transformation of studies is the increased trend for continuous developments of professional knowledge, mastering of already acquired skills and capabilities related to the health system, public-health institutions and city government and local government institutions.
